Hi everyone! Hola a todos. My name is Mr. Pea y juntos vamos a aprender a hablar en inglés. Here we go!
💬 Direct: "I want a cup of coffee," she said.
Reported: She said she ______ (want) a cup of coffee.
✅ She said she wanted a cup of coffee.
💬 Direct: "We are watching a movie," they said.
Reported: They said they ______ (watch) a movie.
✅ They said they were watching a movie.
👉 El Present Continuous se transforma en Past Continuous. Como el sujeto "they" es plural, usamos were watching.
💬 Direct: "I bought a new car yesterday," he said.
Reported: He said he ______ (buy) a new car the day before.
✅ He said he had bought a new car the day before.
Fijaos también en cómo "yesterday" cambia a "the day before".
💬 Direct: "She has finished her homework," they told me.
Reported: They told me she ______ (finish) her homework.
✅ They told me she had finished her homework.
💬 Direct: "I will help you with the bags," Sarah said.
Reported: Sarah said she ______ (help) me with the bags.
✅ Sarah said she would help me with the bags.
💬 Direct: "We can swim very fast," the children said.
Reported: The children said they ______ (swim) very fast.
✅ The children said they could swim very fast.
👉 Al igual que con will, el modal de habilidad can da un paso atrás y se convierte en could.
💬 Direct: "I must study for the test," he said.
Reported: He said he ______ (study) for the test.
✅ He said he had to study for the test.
👉 ¡Mucho ojo con esta! El modal must no tiene pasado propio, por lo que su transformación obligatoria en estilo indirecto es had to.
💬 Direct: "It may rain later," she said.
Reported: She said it ______ (rain) later.
✅ She said it might rain later.
👉 El modal de posibilidad may también retrocede en el tiempo y se convierte en might.
💬 Direct: "I am going to visit London," Mark said.
Reported: Mark said he ______ (visit) London.
✅ Mark said he was going to visit London.
👉 El futuro con going to cambia su verbo auxiliar to be al pasado. Al ser Mark singular, usamos was going to.
💬 Direct: "I love chocolate," he says.
Reported: He says he ______ (love) chocolate.
✅ He says he loves chocolate.
Bye bye!
