Jack: Hi Emma! I haven't seen you since before the summer break. How have you been?
Emma: Hey Jack! I'm doing great, thanks. The summer was really amazing. How about you?
Jack: It was definitely interesting. I ended up changing my plans completely. I was supposed to go to Spain with my family for two weeks, but we had to cancel at the last minute.
Emma: Oh no! What happened?
Jack: My dad had some unexpected work commitments, so we couldn't travel abroad. Instead, I spent three weeks at my grandparents' farm in the countryside. It turned out to be much better than I expected.
Emma: That sounds nice actually. I've always loved visiting my relatives in the countryside. What did you do there?
Jack: Well, I helped my grandfather with the animals every morning, which was hard work but fun. In the afternoons, I usually went cycling or swimming in the lake nearby. I also read five books, which is probably a personal record!
Emma: That sounds really relaxing! I didn't get much reading done during my vacation. I went to a summer camp for two weeks where we did all sorts of outdoor activities.
Jack: Oh cool! What kind of activities did you do?
Emma: Lots of things! We went hiking every other day, tried rock climbing, and even did some kayaking. My favorite was probably the night we spent camping under the stars after a long hike. The view was incredible!
Jack: That sounds amazing! I've never been rock climbing before. Was it difficult?
Emma: At first, yes. I was actually scared of heights before the camp, but by the end of the two weeks, I could climb pretty well! The instructors were really supportive. After camp, I went to visit my cousin in London for a week.
Jack: London must have been a big change after being in nature for two weeks.
Emma: Definitely! We visited all the tourist attractions like the London Eye and Buckingham Palace. We also saw a musical in the West End, which was fantastic. Have you ever been to London?
Jack: Yes, but it was a few years ago. I'd love to go back someday. Did you do any shopping while you were there?
Emma: Yes, too much probably! I bought some clothes and souvenirs for my family. I spent almost all my savings, but it was worth it. What was the best thing about your summer?
Jack: Hmm, definitely spending time with my grandfather. We got really close, and I learned so much from him. It was something I’ll never forget.
Emma: That sounds lovely. For me, it was definitely conquering my fear of heights. I feel like I can do anything now!
